Maureen O Bern

A librarian-turned-councillor who accused Wigan town hall of unfair dismissal has had her case thrown out after a tribunal judged she repeatedly flouted conduct rules.

Maureen O’Bern, who worked at Leigh Library, was dismissed without notice after a disciplinary hearing found her actions constituted gross misconduct.

It is more a shame for Wigan Council, because she beat the Labour Leader of Wigan Council for votes in last years local elections, in his own Ward

And has regards the Unfair Dismissal thing, it comes down to employment contract law, and the small print you sign up to when you take a job with Wigan Council, because the contract is weighted in Wigan Council's favour.

But we need more people like Maureen O'Bern in this town

A pity she is not the MP for the Wigan Constuency as from I have heard and seen of her, she would do more than the present holder of the position!

OC do you really think an MP should be spending days reporting small piles of rubbish that would be shifted anyway if the local resurrected to report it anyway

Looks like its have a do at OC week . I think he is built of stronger stuff and don't let the usual group grind you down .We have lost a few posters because of various inane comments from other members on these boards. He is entitled to his opinions and all certain people can do is try to pull them to pieces. OC put them on ignore then you do not have to read the S**T they post

Handsomeminer he may at times be off kilter but he is harmless but his posts don't bother me The trouble being he over reacts to certain posters including yourself He should be like me and ignore the posting directed at him and not what he had posted. We all know who the faceless key board warriors are who do not post anything constructive but try to pull the poster to pieces with their inane comments This is why the a lot of good posters do not post any more .They read the childish comments then if they reply then the school yard bullies try to take over so think to themselves why bother posting

Couldn't agree more Peter. It seems certain posters carry a massive chip on their shoulder and take it out on others usually calling them rude names which shows their childishness. I rarely post these days due to the comments made by 1 & 2. 3 seems to be missing in action.

Thank you for your supportive comments and if you have noticed, I am also no longer making as many comments for the reasons you have both stated.

Anyway, Spring is here and I am now more too busy concentrating on my interests of the four 'R's', namely going on Railways trips, dining at Restaurants and pubs, watching Rugby League at both Professional and Amateur level with the drinking of Real Ale involved in all three interests.

Life could not be better for someone who is still fit enough to get around in retirement!

Good for you OC, you put some good posts on, those two put nothing on, apart from snide remarks, there are very few posting on WW now, I believe most of them are sick of these type of poster.

But.......whenever I mention WW to anyone the feedback I inevitably get is that it is full of self important and self righteous g*******es with inflated egos who think their opinions are the only ones that matter together with a smattering of closet racists who like the odd `N` joke and delight in stirring up anti-Muslims sentiment. Examples of both we have seen this week.

So where does that put us?

Didn't tomplum say "get your finger out Admin" Well admin got it out twice this week once to delete the so called joke with the N word, mentioned above, and again to delete a you tube video that tomplum posted. Someone might have been daft enough to try the dangerous stunt. I don't see anyone having anything to say about that.

But this is Wiganworld FM and as we all know, here at WW its not what gets said that matters.....its who says it.

Used to also have a fifth 'R' in Rambling but had to give that up as despite my general fitness in retirement, the legs are no longer as fast as they used to be when I was younger.

Stardelta you do enough bi***ing on here so if you do not like what is posted ask for it to removed by using the yellow triangle that's what its for. And maybe because you yourself do not like what is posted does not mean every one has to agree with you and it may not bother them . I personally have the league of nations coming to my house and are a different colour or creed to myself. I pay these people to look after my wife and has long has they do their job then I am not bothered nor is my wife. If some people had their way all Irish jokes/comments would be banned along with the other nationalities that have jokes about them including the English I am having fun with one of my wife's carers who is coloured and comes from Zimbabwe trying to teach her Wigan english does this make me a racist because I am not teaching her the kings english

Tonks I am thick skinned so can take anything you throw my way If the boss has a nod in the afternoon then weather permitting I get jobs done outside. If the weather is crap then apart from seeing to the boss food/drinks /medicine and any other housework chores I am free from about 6-00am till11-00pm every day so can be a keyboard warrior at any time when not busy with other things This morning I was gardening at 5-00am while it was dry and not windy

I know what you mean by having a "league of nations" coming to look after your Wife as a member of our family has a daughter who is looked after in the same way at a care home by immigrants for the simple reason that many of our own people will not do the job for the minium wage, especially if it involves the personal care of a loved one.

OC most of them seem to be from Zimbabwe or Nigeria. But they do a sterling job and don't skimp on Yvonne's personal care.We also have a Podiatrist who came over from Eretria to work here
